The largest specimen was the groper over 2 metres long and weighing over 160 Kg. Museums and benches are synonomous, and part of the Australian Museum is the Lizard Island Research station, located on the northern Great Barrier Reef, 270 km. north of Cairns in Queensland, facilitating coral reef research and education. On the benches at this Island, much valuable research takes place.

Well, I am sure that's one bench I will never find its twn of! Definitely unique! I am nt sure I would want to sit on it and lean against that fish while resting. Ü
Come and see the one I have psoted from my friend.
Who'd have thunk you'd go there with a bench but it's a great take on your theme! I love benches, seats, chairs, it I wasn't absorbed in F'wits, I would definitely play.
A bench and a post with a history quite out of the ordinary. I suspect that this is the closes I'll ever come to the Fiji islands (or Australia) so Iy was nice to also learn a something new.
PS Thank you for the comment! I haven't decided yet quite what I'm going to do about benches and Fridays and so forth, but we'll see... :-)

This is a novel post and I have learned a lot, your posts are always varied. I am sorry I have not called by for so long, life has been hectic, settled a bit now and I shall be a regular visitor once more.

Painting a groper! What a picture!
I love the Australian Museum, it's a great place.
Very unique bench, Pam. I doubt there is another like it anywhere. Thanks for the history behind the fish and the museum. I like to learn new things about Australia.
What a fascinating window on an undiscovered corner of Australian life - thank you for visiting my blog and leading me over here. My first thought on your opening image was "fish dentistry - has the world gone mad?", but the backstory is far more interesting. Lovely, quirky blog.
Very informative, and this is a rare interpretation of "bench." But work benches are benches, without a doubt!
Hey, that's what I love with benches: you start with simple pieces of wood to sit on , and you finish with a whole part of history somewhere in the world!
Very interesting bench, and one of the most unusual.;Good choice!
Beautiful shot !! Great post..
