This week's subject (I know I'm late) for Illustration Friday http://illustrationfriday.com/blog is "Intricate", chosen by Lauren Gentry at http://www.laurengentry.blogspot.com/ . Keeping with a textile theme, I've chosen to highlight the work of Sue from http://travelfibreandthread.blogspot.com/ Sue is from Nottingham, and, like my mother, battled through with an injured arm, and I admire both women for tolerating the inconvenience of this type of injury(guess you don't have a choice!) requiring surgery, and the patience to allow healing to take its course. Sue has some fascinating photos on Flickr. http://www.flickr.com/ . These are from her Bedfordshire lace series. Healing and bobbin lace - the sort of things you certainly can't rush! Textilosophy Quotes:

"The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once" Einstein.

"Victory is won not in miles, but in inches. Win a little now, hold your ground, and later win a little more".
and ...

"Let us not run the world hastily,
Let us not grasp at the rope of wealth impatiently;
What should be treated with mature judgement let us not treat in a fit of temper;
Whenever we arrive at a cool place, Let us rest sufficiently well;
Let us give prolonged attention to the future,
And then let us give due regard to the consequence of things."

-Yoruba odu (recita) translated by E.B.Idowa.

Love the last quote, as someone who is always rushing and very impetous, then those are good peaceful words indeed.

What an inspirational post, Pam. I'm sending it to my friend Jeanie (The Marmalade Gypsy). She is lefthanded and having surgery on her left shoulder very soon. She will definitely enjoy the inspiration from this post. Hugs, Annie

Hello, Pam,

A friend sent me your link as I am having shoulder surgery next week and will be one-armed for a bit. I'm still not sure how my knitting will fare, and paper art and collage are out for awhile. She wanted to share the inspiration of your blog and it's delightful. I plan to return and investigate all in more detail! Thanks!

What wonderful wise words these are, Pam. I think I will print off a copy to stick on my cork board beside my computer.

Inspiring words indeed - my Grandma learnt to make lace when her poor hands became to arthritic to knit and sew, she couldn't not be making something! i was always fascinated to sit and watch her deft fingers moving those bobbins. thank you for bringing back those memories x

Stop throwing out so much good stuff--from the lace making to the quotations! I don't have adequate words in response.

So, er, uh, like, yea.
